I grew up a Star Wars kid of the 70’s and 80’s. When I wasn’t dumping every spare quarter into the arcade machines at the mall I was learning BASIC on the Atari 800 and later struggling with one bit graphics on my 128k Mac. Summers were spent surfing, biking, camping, and dying on The Oregon Trail.
I followed my girlfriend to art school and graduated just in time to ride the wave of CD ROMs and multimedia. You couldn’t swing a cat without hitting someone who wanted to publish one. I designed many of these for major corporations, musicians, advertisers, and even a few high profile legal cases.
After seeing Jurassic Park I bought my first SGI and Softimage in 1996.
A little more than 25 years ago I got my first job in the movie business at a small boutique run by former R/GA and Imaginary Forces artists. It was a trailer for the Bruce Willis movie Mercury Rising. We borrowed render power from Sandia Labs when they weren’t busy running nuclear detonation simulations.
Since then I have worked as a compositor, lighter, on-air graphics designer, title designer, animator, motion control camera programmer, instructor, and finally cfx artist. I have held a variety of roles from shot monkey up to vfx supervisor.
I married my girlfriend. We live in Los Angeles.
